K-State Faculty Receive NSF Funding

A collaborative effort between researchers in STEM education and visual cognitive psychology at K-State has resulted in a $1.2 million grant from the National Science Foundation's Division of Research on Learning in Formal and Informal Settings. The three year project "Research on the Use of Visual Cueing and Feedback to Facilitate Problem Solving" will begin January 1, 2014.

Well-designed images in STEM problems can facilitate learning. Building on prior research this project explores the influence of visual cues and factors to improve problem solving performance in introductory college math and physics courses. The investigators will test the hypothesis that appropriately designed visual cues provided on these problems can improve students' physics problem solving skills in STEM courses.

The project team includes Sanjay Rebello, Professor of Physics, as principal investigator with co-principal investigators Lester Loschky, Associate Professor of Psychology, and Andrew Bennett, Professor and Head of Math.
