Graduate Program
The Physics department offers a research-based program which culminates in a PhD or MS. Research areas in the department including atomic, molecular and optical physics; soft, condensed, and biological matter physics; high energy physics; cosmology; and physics education research. Prospective applicants are encouraged to view our faculty research interests to identify potential advisors.
PhD in Physics
The PhD program prepares students to be independent, rigorous, and creative scientists in preparation for careers in research, teaching, industry and government. Most PhD students will graduate in 6 years.
MS in Physics
The MS program provides research training in physics. Some students use this as a step towards future doctoral training whereas others use it to gain skills needed for specific careers. Most Physics MS students graduate in 3 years.
